Kim's Teaching Information

I'm always happy to have the opportunity to meet new quilters and share my quiltmaking techniques, especially my invisible machine appliqué method!  I've provided information below to answer questions that I'm most often asked, but please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any additional questions. With my very hectic schedule, it's usually best to reach me via email using my contact page -- catching me when I'm near a phone can be a little bit tricky, but if you're unable to connect with me on-line, please leave a message at 208-589-5318 and I'll return your call just as soon as I'm able!

Teaching Fees

Through 2010, there is a teaching fee of $600 for each six-hour class; three-hour classes are $350 each. Price per lecture or trunk show is $300. The hosting group or groups will be responsible for the reimbursement of any costs associated with shipping quilts or teaching materials. Effective January 1, 2011, these fees will be $650 for each six-hour class, $375 for each three-hour class, and $325 per trunk show or lecture. Beginning January 1, 2012, each six-hour class will be $675, each three-hour class will be $375, and each trunk show or lecture will be $325.

Classes

My classes are project-oriented rather than technique-based, which means that you'll complete your workshop with more than just a practice sample -- everything you learn can be applied toward making your own quilt!

To make the most of our time together and to achieve the best possible results during my visit, I find that three-hour classes are best when offered in addition to one or more six-hour classes. These quick classes are wonderful as an extra choice for open evenings or to supplement schedules for larger events, but the additional time that a six-hour class format provides will help ensure that everyone has plenty of hands-on sewing time and leaves happy!

Class Size

Experience has taught me that an optimal class size is 20 students, but I can accommodate up to 25 students and provide a good learning experience for each individual. For each student in excess of 20 persons, there will be an additional $15 fee.

Teaching Agreement

Once a visit to your group or event has been scheduled, a teaching agreement can be printed, completed, and forwarded to me. You can download a copy of my teaching agremeent here: Teaching Agreement. I'll complete my portion of the agreement and return a copy to you for your records. My mailing address is:

Advertising and Publicity

I'm happy for you to use any information from my "A Little Bit About Kim" page for your advertising purposes, and you're also welcome to use digital project photographs whenever available. I'm sorry, but I'm unable to forward project samples for display prior to your scheduled workshops, as these quilts are often in use for other commitments and I've found that scheduling conflicts can occur.

Travel

Flying in and out of Pocatello, Idaho, can be challenging at times due to the somewhat limited flight schedule offered by this city's smaller airport. I always compare rates for Pocatello and neighboring cities to take advantage of the best fares possible, and I will make my own arrangements to simplify these details for you.  Because of the large amount of luggage I travel with (and also because I'm way directionally challenged) I'm always very appreciative of being met at the airport and having transportation provided to and from any workshops that are scheduled.

If automobile travel to a destination outside of Pocatello is necessary (either to the airport or to your event), round trip mileage will be charged at the IRS rate in effect at the time of the event. The hosting group or groups will be responsible for reimbursing these travel costs as outlined in my teaching agreement, and any overweight luggage fees assessed by the airline for quilts or teaching materials will be included.

Lodging and Meals

While I'm always appreciative of the generosity I'm shown and the offers of hospitality I receive for lodging during my visits, I've found that my extensive travel schedule can easily result in health challenges if I'm not careful; for this reason, a hotel room works best for me.  Typically, B & B's don't work well for my needs because I frequently require the larger work space and wireless features most hotels offer, and more often than not, I find myself lugging seventy-pound suitcases to the upper floor bedrooms since B & B's aren't usually equiped with elevators -- not good for me or the B & B!

Lodging costs, in addition to providing two simple meals per day, will be the responsibility of the hosting group or groups. It's always very helpful for me if lodging arrangements can be made in advance by my host.
